Mackenzie Billings, Therapist

Embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing with a compassionate guide by your side – let's navigate life's challenges together.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I bring empathy, energy, and expertise to help individuals navigate life's challenges. With a client-centered approach, I aim to create a safe space for open dialogue so individuals and families can process trauma and unlock their full potential.

I work with children, teens and adults and specialize in areas such as trauma, anxiety and depression, individual or familial substance use, family dynamics, personal relationships, and coping during life’s challenging transitions.

I am dedicated to empowering clients on their journey towards well-being. My style incorporates evidence-based techniques, such as EMDR, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy, and a strengths-based perspective to foster positive change. Together, we can work towards achieving your goals and enhancing your overall mental and emotional health.

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Elon University. I majored in Human Services Studies with minors in Sociology and Leadership Studies. After college, I worked for a year at a crisis shelter for teens, providing individual and family therapy and running life skills groups, before returning to graduate school at University of Maryland School of Social Work. I earned a Masters in Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in clinical social work and a specialization in Children and Families.

While in graduate school, I interned in Foster Care and Child Protective Services at a local Department of Social Services. I continued working for Child Protective Services for several years, refining my clinical skills and furthering my passion for working with individuals and families in crisis. As a Child Protective Services social worker, I helped families utilize their own strengths and gifts to enhance their family dynamics and overall functioning.

I am also a board-approved supervisor and in 2022, I transitioned to the role of clinical instructor at a local graduate school. In that role, I supervise and train Bachelors and Masters students in different areas of public child welfare including substance use, intimate partner violence, motivational interviewing, and trauma responsive practices.

On a more personal note, I live in Baltimore County where I was born and raised. When I'm not working, you can find me spending time with my family and friends, trying out new restaurants (I am a self-proclaimed foodie), traveling, cheering for all of the Baltimore sports teams, or reading a good book.
